Family Holidays On A Budget!
Perfect For A Bad Economy!

Vacation PicBy Emily Redmon/UK

For many families it is now harder than ever to find money for vacations. However, it is possible to find family holidays on a budget and this article will offer some ideas about how to do this. Unfortunately, some of the most expensive times to travel are around school holiday time and some families may want to consider booking a few weekends away throughout the year rather than a longer holiday when the kids are out of school.

Vacation PicCamping is an old family favorite and rather than buying all of the necessary equipment, why not ask neighbors and friends if they have gear available to borrow. Not only are campsite fees reasonable, it is also easy to take all of the groceries for the holiday to the campsite. Renting an RV is a great way to see some of the country and for those with younger kids; it allows freedom of destination and schedule. Although the price of hire and gas needs calculating, it can still be considerably cheaper than booking a family vacation.

For those with family members living far away it is possible to combine a family visit with a vacation, especially if the relatives can offer accommodation for the holiday. Even contributing to food and other costs, it should still cost less than staying in a motel.

Vacation packages are becoming very popular as these include flights, accommodation and sometimes food and drink. When looking for a cheap vacation package, destination should be flexible, as this will help in finding a good deal. Often packages only fly from major airports such as LAX (Los Angeles) or JFK (New York) so it can be worth checking whether connecting flights will work out cheaper if booked separately.

It is also good to avoid major destinations and cities, instead, stay farther away from the cities. Many people find that it costs less to stay in a different region and book a flight, or drive into the city for a short visit. It is also worth considering countries such as Costa Rica, where the dollar is stronger than the local currency. For those considering Europe, rather than booking hotels, look for apartments, chalets or villas that are available to rent, as these will often cost less than hotel accommodation.

When booking a holiday keep an eye out for airlines and accommodation that has reduced prices or even free places for children under a certain age. For those who are willing to take the risk of last minute booking, the web offers some great deals available for both flights and accommodation. It is also good to search the web for discount deals such as Low Cost Holidays voucher codes that can offer great savings off family vacations.
